Women’s Philanthropy

Women philanthropists are the change-makers and community-shapers of the world. We are sisters and daughters, mothers and friends, compassionate and committed women at every stage of life and career.

The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey’s women’s philanthropy engages Jewish women in making the world a better place.

Leading Community and Inspiring Change

The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey’s women’s philanthropy engages Jewish women in making the world a better place. We connect women through friendship, learning, and the Jewish values of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and tzedakah (charity). We are building and supporting Jewish life for today and for generations to come.

We offer a variety of women’s philanthropy opportunities to inspire and empower women to become leaders and decision-makers. Our collective philanthropy enriches our own lives while improving the lives of others.

Lion of Judah

Lions of Judah are strong women of all ages, an international sisterhood of thousands of global activists who care deeply about the Jewish future. They play a vital role in creating social justice, aiding the vulnerable, preserving human dignity, and building Jewish identity.

The Lion of Judah symbolizes strength, honor, and dedication for the Tribe of Judah, the dominant tribe of the Twelve Tribes of Israel.  It continues to reflect those values today. Women who are Lions of Judah are leading their peers through generosity, strength, and vision.

There are three ways for a woman to become a Lion of Judah:

  • Donate $5,000 or more to JFSNJ’s JFund Annual Campaign solely in her name, or as a household
  • Donating a combined total of at least $6,000 systemwide (to JFund and our family of agencies), with $1,000 or more to JFSNJ’s JFund Annual Campaign specifically, either solely in her name or in total as a household

Each year that a woman sustains or increases her gift, she is eligible to have a precious stone set into her Lions of Judah pin.

Jewish Women's Foundation of Southern New Jersey

The Jewish Women’s Foundation of Southern New Jersey (JWF of SNJ) is a female-led committee of the Funds Development Board of the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey.  JWF of SNJ partners with the Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. to bring positive change to the lives of Jewish women and children in the Southern New Jersey Jewish community and around the world.

The JWF of SNJ is comprised of women of all ages with varied backgrounds and experiences, whose membership dues create a funding pool from which grants are awarded each year, to improve the lives of women and children.
