FREE EVAN GERSHKOVICH
On March 29, 2023 while reporting in Russia, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, the son of Jewish refugees who escaped the Soviet Union, was arrested by Russian security services and charged with espionage. He is the first American journalist detained in Russia on such charges since the Cold War.
The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey is committed to supporting Evan and his family through this time and encourages you to join us in these efforts.
Here are some ways you can get involved and learn more:
- Write a letter to Evan at freegershkovich@gmail.com. This effort, coordinated by his Wall Street Journal colleagues, ensured letters are translated into Russian by volunteers, and mailed to the prison where Gershkovich is being held.
- Watch the May 8 webinar coordinated by Jewish Federations of North America, which included speakers Jodie Ginsberg, the President of the Committee to Protect Journalists, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and Paul Beckett, Washington Bureau Chief of The Wall Street Journal.
